Who we are
Crate is made and sold by Mulindi Enterprises ("we", "us"). You can reach us through Support.
Orders
Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle provides all customer service inquiries and handles returns.
When you buy Crate Pro on this website, you're buying from Paddle, and Paddle's buyer terms apply to the purchase as well as these. Prices are in US dollars; Paddle adds sales tax or VAT where it applies and shows the total before you pay.
If you get Crate from the Mac App Store, Apple sells it, and Apple's terms, including its standard license agreement, apply instead of the ordering and refund parts of these terms.
Your license
Crate is free to download and use for identifying songs. Crate Pro unlocks tagging, organizing and copying music to an iPod.
When you buy Crate Pro, we email you a license key. It gives you a personal, non-exclusive right to use Crate Pro:
- on up to three Macs that you own or use at the same time;
- for Crate 1 and every 1.x update.
To move it to another Mac, remove it from one first in Crate › Settings › Crate Pro. A business can buy one license per person who uses Crate.
Please don't share your key publicly, resell it, or try to get around the license check. We may turn off a key that has been shared publicly, or whose payment was refunded or charged back.
Crate itself, its name and its icon belong to us. Buying a license gives you the right to use the app, not ownership of it.
Updates
Updates within Crate 1 (1.1, 1.2 and so on) are included. A future Crate 2 would be a new purchase. Your Crate 1 license keeps working with Crate 1 for as long as it runs on your Mac.
The version sold on this website checks for updates and asks before installing them.
Your music and iPods
Crate changes files: it writes tags and artwork into them, and copies or moves them into folders. It makes copies by default, and Edit › Undo Organize reverses the last batch, but please keep a backup of music you care about.
You're responsible for having the right to the music you use with Crate.
When you copy music to an iPod, Crate rewrites the iPod's music database, the way iTunes did. It's tested on real iPods, but the database can be damaged by unplugging it mid-copy or by other software. If that happens, Check iPod can often repair it; restoring the iPod with Finder always will, but erases its music.
Crate isn't made by, affiliated with or endorsed by Apple. iPod, iTunes, Mac and Shazam are trademarks of Apple Inc.
Other services
To identify songs and find albums, Crate uses services run by others: Shazam, MusicBrainz, Apple's catalog and the Cover Art Archive. We don't control them, and they can be slow, wrong or unavailable. What Crate finds is its best guess; you can always change it.
Warranty and liability
Crate is provided "as is", without any warranty that it will be free of errors or suit your particular needs. To the extent the law allows, we're not liable for lost data, lost profits, or any indirect or consequential loss arising from using Crate, and our total liability is limited to what you paid for Crate Pro.
None of this limits rights you have under consumer law that can't be excluded, or our liability for anything that can't legally be limited.
Everything else
If you ask for a refund, see the Refund Policy. How we handle your information is in the Privacy Policy.
We may update these terms, for example when Crate gains features. The date at the top shows when they last changed. Changes don't take away rights you already have under a license you've bought.
If part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies.
These terms are governed by the laws of Zambia, without taking away the protection of the consumer laws where you live.
